La Valle d’Itria, conosciuta anche come la Valle dei Trulli, è una parte di territorio pugliese che si estende tra le città di Locorotondo, Alberobello, Martina Franca, Cisternino, Ceglie Messapica, Ostuni e Fasano. La zona è caratterizzata dalla presenza di trulli, antiche e suggestive abitazioni a forma di cono realizzate in pietra presso cui è possibile viverci ancora oggi. Per far vivere a pieno le tradizioni pugliesi, molti hanno deciso di trasformare i trulli in alloggi, ristrutturandoli e dotandoli di tutti i comfort moderni, in modo tale che siano abitabili lasciando intatto il loro fascino storico.
Soggiornare in un trullo è decisamente un’esperienza particolare e sono varie le città della Valle d’Itria che offrono questa possibilità. Alberobello è la città dei trulli per antonomasia e proprio per questo non si può non fare una passeggiata nel Rione Monti, dove più di mille trulli sono concentrati nei caratteristici vicoletti. Il Tipico Resort è situato nel centro storico della città ed è formato da tanti trulli rimodernati presso cui è possibile soggiornare. Alberobello è patrimonio dell’UNESCO dal 1996 quindi si può dire che alloggerete in degli autentici monumenti.
Ceglie Messapica, in provincia di Brindisi, è una delle città più antiche della Puglia e proprio qui Masseria Camarda ha trasformato trulli e stalle in vere e proprie camere e suites dell’agriturismo. Città d’arte e terra di gastronomia, Ceglie Messapica è conosciuta per il famoso biscotto cegliese, le masserie, i trulli, le grotte carsiche e il caratteristico centro storico. Visitare la città nel periodo estivo vi permetterà di sentirvi parte della tradizione pugliese grazie alle feste patronali ricche di musica, cibo e divertimento e al Festival dei Giochi Tradizionali, durante il quale adulti e bambini potranno giocare gratuitamente a una serie di giochi antichi, dai più semplici come il Salto alla
corda a La Grande Palla Avvelenata ai più difficili come il Palo della Cuccagna e il Biliardone Umano. Ceglie Messapica è anche città d’arte, custodisce il Castello Ducale ora adibito a biblioteca.
Anche Locorotondo, provincia di Bari, offre la possibilità di alloggiare presso le antiche costruzioni pugliesi; Trullo Sereno Angelo dispone di trulli perfettamente ristrutturati dotati di giardino che affaccia sulla Valle d’Itria. Così chiamata per la particolare forma del centro storico formato da
piccole case su anelli concentrici, Locorotondo vanta uno dei borghi più belli della Puglia, caratterizzato da case bianche, balconi fioriti e architetture barocche. Il periodo più magico in cui visitare la città è Natale, il centro storico si riempie di luminarie, decorazioni e mercatini.
Parlando delle tipiche case bianche che caratterizzano tutti i borghi della Valle d’Itria, non si può non citare Ostuni. Rinominata “la città bianca” per la calce che riveste molti dei suoi edifici, Ostuni sorge su tre colli, su uno dei quali si erge la Cattedrale romanica. La città è conosciuta anche per le
sue spiagge, Costa merlata così chiamata per le sue coste frastagliate e Rosa Marina, conosciuta per le sue spiagge e la macchia mediterranea. Ex fattoria, la Masseria Le Carrube a Ostuni, è una tipica struttura in pietra a vista che dista solo otto minuti dal Parco naturale regionale Dune costiere,
situato nel territorio di Fasano o Ostuni.
Fasano, altra città della Valle d’Itria, è caratterizzata dalle tipiche casette bianche, dalla Torre delle Fogge, l’unica torre militare rimaste delle undici della cinta muraria e dalla seicentesca Chiesa di San Nicola. Fasano è rinomata per il Parco archeologico di Egnazia, dove è possibile visitare resti di
case e basiliche. A Savelletri, frazione di Fasano, si trova Masseria Torre Coccaro, lussuoso hotel ospitato in una masseria con torre cinquecentesca. Tra le attività da svolgere a Masseria Torre Coccaro ci sono i tour in vespa e macchine d’epoca, le degustazioni di vini e oli pugliesi e non possono mancare le feste di paese in Masseria, tra angoli di cucina dal vivo e artisti di strada.
Cisternino è conosciuta per la sua architettura istintiva, e quindi non pianificata, che la contraddistingue dagli altri centri storici pugliesi. Questa città però è ancora più famosa per le sue bombette, involtini di carne da cuocere alla brace sempre presenti in qualsiasi sagra e festa pugliese.
Masseria Gianecchia, situata tra Cisternino e Ostuni, è circondata dagli ulivi secolari e composta da una casa padronale e abitazioni più piccole. Caratteristiche della masseria sono un vecchio frantoio e un vecchio fenile, ora luogo di intrattenimento, una chiesetta, dei trulli e un antico forno situati
nell’ampio piazzale.
Per concludere non può mancare la città di Martina Franca, conosciuta per i suoi edifici barocchi. Tra questi spiccano Palazzo Ducale e la Basilica di San Martino. Situata in campagna, nel cuore della Valle d’Itria, Masseria San Michele offre degustazioni di vini e oli, lezioni di cucina pugliese
e passeggiate a cavallo nei boschi.
La Valle d’Itria è caratterizzata dal bianco luminoso della calce, dalle masserie e dai trulli ma soprattutto dal calore che solo la tradizione pugliese sa trasmettere.

The Itria Valley, also known as the trulli valley, is an area of the Apulian territory that covers the cities of Locorotondo, Alberobello, Martina Franca, Cisternino, Ceglie Messapica, Ostuni and Fasano. The area is characterized by the presence of trulli, ancient and evocative cone-shaped houses of stone where it is possible to live even nowadays. To fully experience the Apulian tradition, trulli are turned into apartments, reconstructed, and equipped with every modern comfort, in order to make them habitable leaving their historic charm intact.
Staying in a trullo is a unique experience and there are several cities in the Itria Valley that offer this possibility. Alberobello is the iconic city of trulli, that’s why you cannot miss Rione dei Monti, where thousands of trulli are concentrated in the characteristic alleys. Il Tipico Resort is situated in the historic centre of the city, and it consists of many renovated and habitable trulli. Alberobello has been a UNESCO World Heritage since 1996, so it can be said that you will be staying in authentic monuments.
Ceglie Messapica, in the province of Brindisi, is one of the most ancient cities in Puglia, ant it is here that Masseria Camarda has turned trulli and stables into real farmhouse rooms and suites. City of art and land of gastronomy, Ceglie Messapica is well known for its famous biscotto cegliese (almond biscuits), masserie, trulli, karst caves and the peculiar historic centre. Visiting the town during the summer will allow you to feel part of the Apulian tradition thanks to the patronal festivals full of music, food and fun and to the Festival dei Giochi Tradizionali, during which adults and children can play several different traditional games, simple ones like jump rope and dodgeball
and more difficult ones like Palo della Cuccagna (climbing a greasy pole) and Biliardone umano (a human version of fusball-table). Also, Ceglie Messapica is a city of art, it houses the Ducal Castle, now used as a library.
Locorotondo, in the province of Bari, offers the possibility to live in the ancient Apulian houses too. Trullo Sereno Angelo provides perfectly restored trulli with a garden overlooking the Itria Valley. Locorotondo, named in this way for the particular shape of its historic centre formed by little houses on concentric rings, is one of the most beautiful towns in Puglia, characterised by small white houses, flowered balconies and baroque architecture. The most magical time to visit the town is Christmas when the historic centre is full of lights, decorations and markets.
Speaking of the typical white houses that characterize all the towns in the Itria Valley, we cannot forget to mention Ostuni. Renamed “the white city” for the lime covering many of its buildings, Ostuni rises on three hills, on one of which stands the Romanesque Cathedral. The city is recognized for its beaches, Costa Merlata, so called for its rugged coastline and Rosa Marina, known for its beaches and the Mediterranean bush. Former farm, Masseria Le Carrube in Ostuni, is a typical stone building, eight minutes away from the Parco Naturale Regionale Dune Costiere, between Fasano and Ostuni.
Fasano, town of the Itria Valley, is characterized by the whitened houses, Torre delle Fogge, the only remaining military tower among the eleven towers of the city walls, and by the Chiesa di San Nicola. Fasano is famous for the Parco Archeologico di Egnazia, where it is possible to visit remains of houses and churches. In Savelletri, fraction of Fasano, there is Masseria Torre Coccaro, a luxury hotel located in a 16 th century farmhouse with tower. Among the activities, there are vintage cars and vespa tour, Apulian wine and olive oil tasting and, a must, the village feast in the masseria, with live cooking show and street artists.
Cisternino is known for its instinctive and unplanned architecture that makes the city different from the other Apulian historic centers. This town, however, is even more famous for the bombette, grilled meat rolls, ever-present in any Apulian festival and feast. Masseria Gianecchia, between Cisternino and Ostuni, is surrounded by centuries old olive trees and consists of a main house and smaller dwellings. Features of the masseria are an old mill and an old barn, now entertainment venues, a little church, trulli and an old wood stove located in the wide courtyard.
In conclusion, we cannot miss the city of Matina Franca, known for its baroque building like Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica di San Martino. Nestled in the countryside, in the heart of the Itria Valley, Masseria San Michele offers wine and olive oil tasting, Apulian cooking lesson and horseback riding tours.
The Itria Valley is characterised by the bright white of lime, by trulli and masserie, but above all by the warmth that only the Apulian tradition can provide.
